Crosman 764SB Air Rifle
If ever there was a Mom like the one in A Christmas Story (“You’ll shoot your eye out!”) it’s me. I was vehemently opposed to BB guns, air soft and paint ball guns for YEARS. Then all the neighborhood boys had air soft guns. All the school friends had them. Our city opened a big paintball park. I had to get over it after I fully armed my poor son, Dylan in every protective gear you could possibly imagine.
He’s 19 now and he gets so annoyed because I’m more relaxed with his younger brother, Shawn (age 12). Last year was the first year I let him get an air soft pistol. No shooting people or animals, targets only in the backyard! He did well with it, not pointing it at his sister or anything, and he’s been very responsible, so when he asked for a rifle version this year, I got it.
We bought him the Crosman 764SB Air Rifle. As a buyer, Shawn had given me a link to some crappy, low rated air soft rifle (probably being sweet about cost for me), so when it came time to buy for Christmas, I went searching and bought this one based on it having 32 almost perfect 5 star review rating. I saved 54% buying it there and got Free Shipping for it and the accessories I bought (the targets and BBs).
Now I had to go searching to find out the answer to my big question: “What’s the difference between BB guns and Airsoft Guns?” Because this product uses BBs. What I found out was that real BB guns can be lethal – they shoot a different caliber bullet, while air soft guns are made with the intention of play fighting and shooting each other or targets and BB guns are NOT meant to shoot people. So while it would pinch if you got hit with one, it’s okay if you wear protective gear in the process.
When I ordered, the site had one of those options to add targets and ammunition with it, so I did. But the ones I got are sold out and I wish they had been when I ordered because I went to this paper target page and found some MUCH funner stuff I would have ordered! They have paper targets which, instead of a standard round target circle, have:
- Bad guy pictures
- Deer
- Critters
- Zombies (Shawn would have LOVED this one!)
- Vampires
- Terrorists
- Hostage takers, etc.
They also have target packs with different games in them. So I suggest buying those separate, adding them to your cart yourself instead of using their “buy this, add these two items” option. My husband didn’t think the “bad guys” or people ones were appropriate, but as a Texan and gun owner myself, I think it’s fine.
For the actual BBs, we bought these: Crosman Copperhead 6000 Copper Coated BBs in a Bottle. Those work really well and he shoots empty Coke cans with them. They were less than $13 and I added it all into my cart so it also had Free Shipping.
Now on the use of the gun itself, which costs under $50, I think it took an hour maybe for him to feel real comfortable with it. My brother in law, who is a former Marine, helped him determine where to aim to hit the target. It’s something he has to pump and then fire. I see him outside being careful to take aim and then coming in with a Coke can full of shots.
I want Shawn to show you the Cromans 764SB Air Rifle in action on video and talk about it himself because he’s the one using it, not me. And again, sorry I don’t show my kids’ faces online but I’m a protective Mama Bear!
Here’s where you can read the rest of the Crosman 764SB Air Rifle reviews.

Good review, enjoyed Shawn’s comments on what he liked and what he didn’t on the rife. Star in the making.
Great review, Shawn. Very informative! You made me want one! Being from the England, we don’t see these types of guns in store. It was strange to click through to Amazon and see them on sale. It seems that since they don’t allow guns here in the UK, they also make it difficult for you to buy even these air rifles. Thanks for the review! Nice shot by the way!
My nephew wants one of these and it was good to see a review from someone his age who uses it. Looks like we might be getting him one for his birthday soon.
Good tip from the marine guy about aiming it. I think you may have a marine of the future right there.
Hey Tiff
Nice to see Shawn helping you to showcase some boy’s toys. He’s a natural on screen like his sister! I thought when he was showing how to use the rifle that the pump looked a bit hard and despite the mask he looks like a pretty good shot. So well done Shawn!
In Australia we just don’t buy guns and there are few gun shops around. To get a gun you have to be licensed and jump through a lot of hoops including a police check!
Great review Shawn! And you look pretty scary with the mask on holding a gun.
And thanks Tiffany for explaining the difference between a bb gun and air rifle.
Hi,
Good job on the review, Shawn! You remind me of my son who loves air-soft guns and has several. He has moved on to real guns but has taken 2 gun safety and skills classes. He has been looking for another airsoft gun that would give him more accuracy because we don’t have the room for him to shoot a real gun on our property, so I’m going to tell him about this one.
Very good video. Thank you for this informative post. I think the zombies would have been a good choice.
Great video! very informative
Shawn what a great job you did on this review. Thank You very much!
Could not get the video to play-and I was anxious to see it, too. Tiff when you get it fixed put it an email and I’ll come back. Or if it’s my problem let me know.
I love to watch people shoot. Did they have a target with Ali Baba on it? You know, our current WH occupant?
Susan
Your someday press secretary when you run for office
Susan looks like others are able to view it – might be the browser? No Oblunder targets. Probably against the law LOL!
Hey Tiff,
There’s a new Oblunder Chia pet out…I’m guessing it’s ok to shoot at the plant that comes out….gotta keep its hair trimmed you know!! LOL
Debi
LOL love it!
Hi,
Great job on the review, Shawn!
You look really confident with it already.
I’m looking forward to more reviews from your point of view.
Pat
Hey Shawn
Great review. I love the way you showed what you liked and didn’t like. That’s really important for someone to know when you are buying something like this — especially something for your kid.
I also think you’re great for wearing that mask because you Mom asked you to wear it.

Excellent “real live” review of that Crosman Air Rifle, makes me want to consider one but really? my sons are old enough to buy one of their own, so no fun in a present like this one for these old guys, haha. As for my grandsons, the boys are 5 and under. I would think that they still too young. But you never know as they get older, it’s good for me to learn about it. If he was old enough he probably would like to knock out those zombies too!
One thing my grandson Daniel is fascinated by are insects. Digging them up, catching them, and thinking he could raise them all:-)
Hi Tiffany and Shawn
In NZ teenagers are allowed to own the BB rifles and I was horrified the first year my husband bought them for my two sons – but we had the same rules you do (no shooting at people especially your sister) and the boys proved themselves to be responsible enough in the first year to graduate to a crossbow the following year – we might not have the same gun culture in this country but out on the farm it is expected that all young boys will know how to hunt for possums and things like that. I put my boys off of killing anything though, because I don’t hold with that – I told them if they killed anything they would have to eat it so they stuck to cans just like Shawn.
Thanks for the great review Shawn
Lisa (NZ)
No killing here either!
Great review Shawn.
Anyone should be able to make a decision whether or not this is what they’re looking for, based on what you have shown here.
Good job!
Great video Shawn! Now I want one…just kidding. Great review. Keep up the good work.
Looks really cool! Great review Shawn! Very in-depth and informative. If I could buy one of these I’d know everything about it now
Keep up the good work!
Hi Shawn!
Great video and you brought back memories from long ago when my brothers and I used to shoot cans and targets in our backyard with an earlier version of your Crosman 764 (ours was the 760)!
Nice job and I can understand the problems in trying to aim with the paint-ball head gear
Very cool!
Jim H.
Great review. You did a great job on your part of the review, Shawn.
Great review, it’s great to hear the pros and cons from someone who owns it and uses it. Being from Montana my kids and now my grandson are all raised with guns too.
It was great to learn the difference between this and a BB gun.
Hi, Shawn -
Good job – especially with that mask on! And a very good review. My son is 14 – he’d love to shoot with you.
Excellent job!
Paulette
Hi Tiff & Shawn, Nice job with review. Very natural and quite disarming, maintained my interest all the way through. Should turn the mask into a brand, and do some more, mysterious and intriguing. Bit like a superhero!
Well done.
Jack
Great review, Shawn! You have done an excellent job.
Linda
Hi Shawn & Tiff,
Shawn, I loved your review on the Crosman. I want to mention Shawn that my son, who is now 20, owned BB guns and air-rifles since he was 13. A lot of parents would probably cringe. I’m a firm believer if you teach your children, especially boys, how to use a pocket knife and air-rifles safely, they become quicker learners and become more aware of safety. My son’s favorite rifle that he owns is a Crosman Storm XT Scoped Air Rifle. We live in a wooded area and this thing shoots far. Good luck Shawn! Stay safe.
Got Shawn a leatherman and whittling set last year too lol
Nice job Shawn (and I was impressed by how much you know about guns in general).
We weren’t around a lot of guns as kids (Illinois is not the brightest state when it comes to protecting yourself and your family), but since moving to Arizona, my son has gone thru airsoft handguns and rifles (he prefers the rifles as well) and we’ve both graduated to full-on real handguns for protection, along with a shotgun (When I saw you putting the rifle up to your mask I was thinking it was good good that it doesn’t have the same “kick” as a real one!)
Looks like you enjoy it and I have no doubt with as good of an aim as you have now, you’ll be shooting INTO the can openings before no time!
Thanks for the review….now if I could only talk my girlfriend into letting my nieces shoot!
